Robert McClure Bowen (born February 24, 1981 in Bedford, Texas) is a Major League Baseball catcher for the Oakland Athletics. He collected two hits during his four-week Cubs career. On June 20th, 2007, The Cubs acquired Bowen and minor league outfielder Kyler Burke from the Padres in exchange for catcher Michael Barrett. On July 16, 2007, Bowen was dealt to the Oakland A's for Jason Kendall.

High School Years

Bowen attended Homestead Senior High School in Fort Wayne, Indiana. As a senior, he earned All-State honors and was named the Indiana State Player of the Year by Gatorade and USA Today.

In his 55th at bat, he had a 10th inning walk-off home run to beat the Chicago Cubs on May 7th, 2006.

Bowen has nearly 3,000 fewer at bats than Michael Barrett and considerably fewer homeruns and RBIs, leaving many to wonder why the Chicago Cubs would accept the trade. In fact, Barrett has more homeruns and RBIs this season (2007) than Bowen has had in his entire career.

Currently

Rob spends the regular season living in San Diego but his offseasons in a suburb of Atlanta, GA. He also has a baseball camp each winter back in Fort Wayne, Indiana. On Wednesday June, 20th 2007 Rob Bowen was traded to the Chicago Cubs along with a minor leaguer (Burke) for Cubs catcher M. Barrett and cash considerations.
